Organizational Behavior Session 5
In today's first session, we were told that we would be doing 3 case studies that are interesting disruptive examples. The models of the 4 dimensions that may individually or collectively disrupt business models were brought up again as it influences many aspects of different industries. Customers change their behaviors, competitors emerging, existing competitors changing their business models and evolving and the advancement of technological innovations are the dimensions simply put.
The insta-fashion brands are basically brands that are created by the micro-influencers who have garnered enough followers and created a persona likeable enough that they know their followers would buy their products and support their cause or just their styles alone. They are somewhat democratizing fashion by making fashion available for everyone, simply speaking, it is like fashion for the people, quite different from haute coutour and high fashion.
And how these fast fashion companies are disrupted by ultra-fashion firms comes in a lot of ways because of the consumer behavior. Having a more affordable clothes option is sought for by many youths and this was only gaining greater momentum during the pandemic where buying things became much easier and it is much different from a time when people go to physical stores and try it on. Again, for a while, the pandemic prevented that from happening and as we all know, the consumers are always demanding more. So, while the bigger fast fashion companies has many stores to worry about, such as the logistics and employees, the disrupters were capitalizing on this online shopping experience and enhancing the customer's journey from browsing to checking out.
Then we did a case study on Netflix. Netflix is under pressure because as the major studios noticed its potential, they started to retrieve their shows back and announced that they will start their own channel, so netflix has a lot to protect and to create. So how netflix is trying to counteract it is by creating netflix originals and so far, it has been somehow successful but I have recently subscribed to disney plus because I wanted to watch the office and star wars. But these things, Netflix can't help but let happen but it's good to see that it is doing something about it instead of just sticking to their own ways.
